Film "Haute Cuisine" 2013-11-12 19:00:00
Description

HAUTE CUISINE

Director: Christian Vincent

France, 2012, 95 min; French with subtitles

BASED ON A DELICIOUSLY TRUE STORY!

For a sumptuous experience sure to whet any cinematic appetite, there’s no better place than the Elysée Palace to sample the culinary delights of France. “Haute Cuisine,” based on the real-life story of the personal chef to former French President François Mitterrand in the late 1980s, takes the viewer on a foodlover’s holiday through the most mouthwatering creations imaginable.

Catherine Frot plays Hortense, a provincial chef and restaurant owner who is plucked from obscurity to become the personal cook for M. le Président, who has a craving for the traditional regional dishes of his youth.

As the rustic Hortense tries to fit in with the palace’s urbane staff and chafes against the bureaucracy and casual sexism she faces each day, director Christian Vincent lets his roving camera linger over the chef’s delectable creations, described in detail and conjured by her staff with utmost care. Be sure not to watch it on an empty stomach.  –Seattle International Film Festival

Theatre PHOENIX THEATRE: The Skin of Our Teeth @8pm 2013-11-12 20:00:00
Description

THE SKIN OF OUR TEETH

By Thornton Wilder
Directed by Linda Hardy

Enter New Jersey suburbia: home of the perfect middle class family, George, his wife Maggie, their children Gladys and Henry (previously known as Cain?), and their pet dinosaur. George is the inventor of the alphabet, the wheel, and the multiplication tables – he’s the pick of the human race! But can the family survive the ravages of ice ages, global warming, storms, floods, depressions and war? Absurdly funny and very profound, this 1943 Pulitzer Prize-winning satire from the author of Our Town takes us on a wild and raucous tour through the ages.  Revolutionary when first written, The Skin of Our Teeth is a play for our time.
