The IDIEZ Project: Revitalization Nahuatl in Higher Education
Dr. John Sullivan runs the Nahua Language programs at the Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas and Yale University, and is director of the Instituto de Docencia e Investigación Etnológica de Zacatecas. In his lecture he will discuss how
IDIEZ provides a monolingual space for indigenous college students to work in collaboration with international scholars on projects involving the teaching, research and revitalization of older and modern aspects of their language and culture.
Additional lecture: Nahuas in the Mexican Huasteca practice the Tlatlacualtiah ceremony every year before the two planting seasons, making offerings to the natural deities, in the form of paper cuttings, at altars in the home, at springs and on the sacred mountain. Wednesday, 6 March, 2:30 p.m., Clearihue Building, Room A316
Presented by the Latin American Studies Program
