Film "Of TWO Minds" 2013-05-07 19:10:00

Directors: Doug Blush & Lisa Klein   USA, 2012, 85 minutes

The great thing about this documentary on bipolar disorder is that it doesn't dwell on the clinical or pharmaceutical. We hear from the experts, and we learn about medications. But this is a film about people, brave souls willing to reveal personal stories of the torment raging inside their brains. Writer-directors Doug Blush and Lisa Klein took great pains and untold hours documenting a wide range of folks who share their histories and emotions through interviews, videos, artwork and journals. --Cleveland Plain Dealer

Other Online Instructional Skills Workshop: Engaging learners in online, blended and multi-access instruction 2013-05-07 10:00:00

The TIE Research Lab is piloting curriculum in a new workshop which adapts the Instructional Skills Workshop model (ISW) to help faculty, sessional instructors and graduate students develop their understanding of best practices when using synchronous and asynchronous online instructional tools. The free workshop consists of eight face-to-face and 16-to-20 online hours over three weeks. Participants will develop and deliver online lessons and receive feedback from peers as they learn:

•         to create videos of captured lectures and narrated PowerPoints;
•         to teach a synchronous lesson using online instructional tools;
•         to facilitate asynchronous learning activities and discussions; and
•         to develop a basic course website using a Course Management System.

This being a pilot workshop, participants will be asked to provide feedback and information in a short focus group, with short questionnaires, and optionally with video of their online instruction to support further research and curriculum development. The workshop has a maximum of six people so pre-registration is required.
