Director: Marcel Carné (France, 1945, 190 minutes; French with subtitles)
“ONE OF THE MOST BELOVED FILMS OF ALL TIME!” –Seattle Film Festival
FIVE STARS! This 1945 film was made while France was still under German occupation. Set in the theatre world of 19th-century Paris, this is the tale of a great beauty (Arletty) and her role in the lives of four men, including the pure-hearted mime Baptiste (Jean-Louis Barrault). Wise, poignant and beautiful. One of the best French films of all time. --eye Weekly
