SKYFALL
Director: Sam Mendes UK/USA, 2012, 143 min; PG Cast: Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes
"Skyfall" triumphantly reinvents 007 in one of the best Bonds ever made. This is a full-blooded, joyous, intelligent celebration of a beloved cultural icon, with Daniel Craig taking full possession of a role. The film at last provides a role worthy of Judi Dench, returning as M, who is one of the best actors of her generation. If you haven't seen a 007 for years, this is the time to jump back in. FOUR STARS! Roger Ebert

Trevor Lantz is a terrestrial ecologist who works at a variety of scales to understand environmental change in northern ecosystems. Members of his lab combine detailed field investigations of vegetation and microenvironment with broad-scale change detection and spatial pattern analysis. By combining field investigations and regional mapping, his research program seeks to link knowledge of key processes with data on landscape-level variation in critical drivers. Current research projects in the western Arctic focus on permafrost degradation, storm surges, shrub encroachment, catastrophic lake drainage, and anthropogenic disturbance

Reel Spirituality: A Film Series
The films in this series explore questions of morality, culture, the search for meaning and other themes arising from the human journey.
About Schmidt
(Alexander Payne, USA, 2002, 125 min.) Warren Schmidt (Jack Nicholson) has worked for an insurance company in Omaha, Nebraska, for his whole career. At a party celebrating his retirement, his best friend Ray characterizes him as a very rich man who has reaped the internal rewards of a meaningful life and a job well done. The sixty-six year old doesn't see it that way and sneaks out of his party for a drink at the bar alone. Writer and director Alexander Payne (Citizen Ruth, Election) has created an American masterpiece with this bittersweet portrait of a Midwesterner whose disappointments in life have made him into an angry man. This character's negative feelings about himself and the ways he has failed to live up to his youthful dreams are something many people will identify with. In dealing with his feelings towards his wife and family Warren comes to the honest realizations about the direction of his own life and what is of ultimate importance.
Screenings will be followed by a brief moderated discussion with CSRS Associate Fellow and Friends’ Chair Terence Marner.

Reasons to Be Pretty
By Neil LaBute
Directed by Christine Willes
Why do we care about being pretty when "Love is blind, sh#*!head. It is." Reasons to be Pretty takes us up close and personal with four friends and two relationships in this Tony Award-nominated, blue-collar, black comedy. A master of contemporary, realistic, in-your-face and four-letter-friendly dialogue, Neil LaBute mines the humour and painful truths that lay between self-image and self-esteem in our beauty-obsessed society.
"…Some of the freshest and most illuminating American dialogue to be heard anywhere these days.” New York Times
