National Geographic photographer Paul Nicklen is a proud UVic alumnus (BSc Biology 1990). Paul Nicklen has specialized in photographing polar regions since 1995. A unique childhood among the Inuit in Canada’s Arctic and a professional background as a biologist in the Northwest Territories has enabled him to take on the most inhospitable places on our planet. Whether he is ice diving amongst leopard seals in Antarctica, covering hundreds of miles of terrain in -40F temperatures or mastering aerial shots from his ultralight plane, Paul always captures images that reflect a reverence for the creatures inhabiting these isolated and endangered environments. His presentation of stunning images and his passion for polar regions will move you to ask what personal changes you can incorporate into your life to make a difference.
