Theatre Born Yesterday 2017-05-30 All Day

A sharp political satire as relevant today as when it debuted on Broadway in 1946, Blue Bridge Repertory presents Born Yesterday, the American classic made famous by the 1950 film version starring Judy Holliday, William Holden and Broderick Crawford. When an uncouth, remorseless junk dealer arrives in Washington DC with his showgirl mistress by his side, his mission is to buy a congressman. But when the showgirl’s ignorance and audacity threatens his business dealings, he hires a journalist to educate her. It turns out she has an incredible natural intelligence, which she uses to turn the tables on the under–the–table proceedings. Theatre alumna and playwright Janet Munsil directs this latest Blue Bridge production, which features an alumni-heavy cast and crew, with cast members including Michael Armstrong (Writing MFA and sessional instructor), Jonathan Mason, Nick Guerreiro, Chase Hiebert, Caitlin Holm, Tim Machin, Danielle Janess and former Theatre student Jacob Richmond, plus lighting by professor emeritus Giles Hogya, set by Barb Clerihue, costumes by Graham McMonagle, and sound by Carolyn Moon.

Lecture/Seminar Lorna Crozier book launch 2017-05-30 19:30:00

In her newest collection, What the Soul Doesn't Want, retired Writing professor Lorna Crozier describes the passage of time in the way that only she can. Her arresting, edgy poems about aging and grief are surprising and invigorating: a defiant balm. At the same time, she revels in the quirkiness and whimsy of the natural world: the vision of a fly, the naming of an eggplant, and a woman who—not unhappily—finds that cockroaches are drawn to her.
